Teacher of Science job summary

Do you like to explore questions like ‘What is our place in the natural world?’, ‘How are atoms bonded together?’ or ‘How can science help us to fight or prevent disease?’. Help bring Science to life at Leesbrook, guiding our students through a balanced and (bio)diverse curriculum!

The role and what we are looking for

Science is a very popular subject throughout all year groups, and therefore we are looking for someone who can help bring biology, chemistry and physics to life through engaging and exciting lessons. You will grow and develop the expanding department, with plenty of opportunity to make your mark. We need someone who will set high expectations for teaching and learning, inspire students to love learning, and challenge our young people to think in new ways. You must be willing to model and support the Oasis ethos.

This role is essential in the development of the Academy as it grows in size, year on year, to eventually house 1500 students.

Commitment to safeguarding

OCL is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children & young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment & to undergo appropriate checks, including enhanced DBS checks. Oasis Academies exists to provide a rich and balanced educational environment which caters for the whole person. Our task is to serve our learners as well as to provide a learning hub for the entire community. In this way we will raise aspirations, unlock potential & work to achieve excellence through encouraging a ‘can do’ culture which nurtures confident & competent people.

Our Academy

We are a secondary school in Oldham, Greater Manchester that opened in 2018 and are dedicated to supporting our young people to reach their potential. We leave no child behind; our progress data is incredibly strong and it is attributed to the hard work of our staff and students. We work together, sharing this educational journey with a common goal - develop happy and successful leaders who are culturally enriched role models in our community. Being part of the Oasis Community Learning multi-academy trust, we benefit from support and sharing of best practice from our regional schools, Regional Director and wider Oasis family.

We opened the Academy in temporary accommodation in 2018, with just 230 students across two year groups. In November 2020 we moved into our new, permanent home, which is a brand new, state of the art building that sits on the old Breeze Hill School site located on Roxbury Avenue, just off Lees Road in Oldham. We have just over 800 students, after we welcomed another 300 students in September 2022.
