Teacher of Science job summary

Required to start in September 2022, the school is looking to appoint a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative teacher of Science prepared to teach all three disciplines to GCSE level, but this is open to negotiation where there is a particular expertise. Most importantly however we seek to appoint a great teacher who is able to motivate and enthuse students, someone who can convey a passion for the study of Science. The existing Science team is friendly and supportive with a wealth of experience in teaching and examining. We are keen to provide professional development opportunities and we are receptive to new ideas. We have dedicated, well-appointed laboratories, the department is very well resourced, and the teachers are supported by an enthusiastic technician.

In addition to the above requirements, we would also be keen to hear from applicants who can or would be willing to teach Animal Care, Citizenship or PSCHE alongside their main Science timetable.

The department offers both trilogy and separate sciences, and their GCSE results are currently very good and make a very positive contribution to the whole school success.

South Molton Community College has an excellent team of dedicated and talented staff. It has been graded good under the new Ofsted framework in 2019.

‘The school has a strong ethos of respect and tolerance. Pupils are clear about the need to treat everyone equally. High levels of appreciation of others are evident across the school. Pupils want to learn, and they work hard in lessons. Staff have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour, and low-level disruption is rare. Teachers establish clear routines in lessons.’ Dec Ofsted 2019

In April 2017 we moved into a new school. The school is growing in popularity and this growth is likely to continue. We also believe passionately in providing a well-rounded education to our students both in and out of the classroom and are committed to supporting our staff.
