Teacher of Science job summary
The Science Department at St Antony’s Roman Catholic School is a team of five dedicated and experienced teachers. We work creatively and collaboratively, and we aim to achieve the highest standards for all our students.
At KS3, pupils are taught the fundamental concepts of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in a sequence that provides variety as well as laying the ‘foundation stones’ for GCSE study. The sequence means that all ideas are revisited multiple times in ever increasing depth. This idea not only allows pupils to build their knowledge progressively but also provides links between different topic areas that assists pupils in understanding the interleaving ideas between different scientific disciplines. At KS4, we follow the Edexcel GCSE Combined Science course. Pupils are afforded the opportunity to consolidate their learning from key stage three, as well as developing understanding of new content and skills which are required as part of the GCSE assessment framework. Each scientific discipline contains ‘big
ideas’ that run all the way through from Year 7-11.
We are an ambitious and passionate department, and continuing professional development to enhance our subject knowledge is fundamentally important to us. Most importantly, however, we are supportive of each other and have a strong sense of shared commitment.
Commitment to safeguarding
St Antony's is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. The post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and it expects staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As you note from the above, we are a small secondary school which is part of our strength. This has enabled us to make improvements in all areas over the last few years.
