Ridgeway Academy is a member of the Alban Academies Trust (AAT), together with Sandringham, Verulam, Garden Fields JMI, Skyswood Primary and Nursery, Wheatfields Junior and Wheatfields Infants’ and Nursery schools. We work in a multi-academy trust to share best practice, deliver joint training, promote the highest of expectations and raise achievement for all students. The AAT motto is ‘Educational Excellence for Everyone’. The trust offers significant opportunities for career development of staff at all levels within our organisation. This is an exciting time to join the school as it takes the next step in its journey to becoming good and then outstanding.
We opened in September 2018, as part of the Alban Academies Trust, to great excitement from our community with the aim of becoming a truly outstanding school in the future. Our motto is ‘Everyone can achieve’ and we are looking to appoint an outstanding person who can help us achieve our ambitions.
At the heart of the Science department at Ridgeway Academy is a sense of community and the belief that every individual has a unique contribution to make to the department. We support each other by sharing resources and giving time to develop subject knowledge to reduce workload and ensure we are all working towards the same goal. This has meant that the Science department results are improving and by being part of our team you would be supporting us to go from strength to strength.
Our emphasis on support, teamwork and good quality CPD has meant that Science team members have been able to take on roles such as being an examiner for AQA, move into leadership roles within the school and become experts in their fields.
We encourage students to see the real-life application of Science through various extracurricular activities such as a STEM trip to Disneyland Paris, a STEM career fair at the Science Museum, entry into the Faraday Challenge and the water rocket challenge.
There are 10 Science teachers who work together to ensure the best possible progress for our students. All students at KS4 follow either the AQA Single Science specification or the AQA Trilogy specification. We have a growing KS5 cohort and work with four other schools in a consortium to enable students to have access to a wide variety of courses at KS5. At KS3 we have extensively reviewed our curriculum to encourage and challenge students to see the real-life application of Science and prepare them for the challenges of KS4/5 science study. We use practical work routinely to enhance our teaching and develop problem solving skills in our students.
We can offer you:
A collaborative, supportive team with a passion for teaching and facilitating progress
Enthusiastic students who are keen to progress
Appropriate professional development
We are looking for someone who:
Has good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate with a wide range of people
Has a flexible and adaptable approach to working in a very busy environment
Shares and delivers our vision to be an outstanding school
Works hard, is enthusiastic and self-motivated
If you would like to join us on our journey and have access to career prospects through the Trust, we would love to hear from you.
