Job description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and engaging science teacher to join our fantastic school. The successful candidate will work within an ambitious, vibrant and high performing department to instil a love of science in all students. As well as a Level 3 BTEC Science course, the department runs multiple A-Level classes in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and an ability to teach either Biology or Physics to A-Level would be expected of the successful candidate. The department achieved a value added score of +1.1 at GCSE last year and has a strong track record of producing large numbers of students who go on to study science related courses at university.

Educating 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. Last year 88% of our GCSE students achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, contributing to a Progress 8 score of +0.15, compared to a national average for boys of -0.29. At A-Level we had a 52% A* - B pass rate in 2019 and five students taking up Oxbridge places last year. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.
