Our Science Department …
The Science department at Werneth School is a dynamic and enthusiastic faculty built upon a team ethic and an unshakable desire to boost the academic achievement of our pupils.
We are a team of eleven subject specialists and two laboratory technicians. The team is led by a dedicated leadership team including a Head of Subject, a Second in Subject, a GCSE Transition Coordinator and a Key Stage Three Coordinator. All current leaders within the department were internally promoted to their current positions highlighting the professional development opportunities available at Werneth School. We are based across eight state of the art laboratories, two classrooms and a dedicated teacher work space.
A team ethos underpins every aspect of our department from co-planning to extra-curricular activities including revision sessions and STEM Summer Camps. The department is on a journey of sustained improvement with an increase in student outcomes across all measures in each of the last four years. We offer Combined and Triple Science routes at GCSE. A large proportion of our students study Triple Science and we have significantly increased the number of students choosing to study Science based qualifications at post sixteen level over the last four years.
The department benefits from clear and strategic leadership from its leadership team and a shared vision amongst all team members to continue to strive for excellence in all that we do. We seek to appoint a new team member who shares our collective vision of striving for excellence through promoting a team ethos to continue to drive the academic outcomes of our students’ forwards.
