Job summary

About the role: The Hundred of Hoo Academy has a rare and exciting opportunity to appoint a dynamic and exceptional Teacher of Social Sciences to join our growing department for September 2021. We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about the Social Sciences who can build upon the existing popularity of subjects such as Sociology, and ensure the trend of excellent results across the Academy continues. The Academy has been on a transformational journey with regards to its curriculum and now proudly offers its students a more broad and balanced curriculum than ever. We currently offer Sociology and PSHE at GCSE, in addition to an established Sociology Course at Post 16.

Please note that our successful candidate must be able to deliver Sociology and Criminology, and experience in teaching Psychology would be desirable.

As part of our transformational journey this year we have introduced Post 16 Psychology for the first time at the Academy. This post therefore brings the unique opportunity to instate, develop and shape a year 13 curriculum offer for the current cohort . Psychology has so far been very well received and is proving to be a popular choice at A level for the year ahead. The newly appointed teacher would be faced with the exciting opportunity to mould the future of Psychology within our Post 16 offer. In addition, as part of our vision to broaden the Post 16 Social Sciences curriculum offer, it is our aim to introduce Criminology as an option in the future. We are confident this would be an attractive option for our young people with the right candidate being instrumental in shaping the design of a potential Criminology curriculum.

About The Hundred of Hoo Academy

So what makes us different at The Hundred of Hoo Academy? It is how we translate our culture, vision and values into every action every day, where you can see staff and pupils role modelling high expectations. We want our teachers to concentrate on what they do best – teach. To achieve this we have clear, consistent behaviour systems and every teacher has their own classroom. Our teachers plan the curriculum together allowing them to share expertise as well as the workload. We also provide an array of professional development programmes for our staff including NQTs, middle and senior leader programmes.

Working with our academy: The Hundred of Hoo Academy is a unique all through academy with pupils from Reception up to Sixth Form, and whilst this role supports the entire academy, it is most likely the successful candidate will work with pupils aged 11-16 on a daily basis. In September 2011, The Hundred of Hoo converted to academy status. Just one year later, Ofsted judged the academy as “good with outstanding features” recognising the relentless focus and ambition that we have. In September 2015 the academy welcomed its first Reception class thereby extending its age range to 4-year-old children. This exciting provision demonstrates the academy’s sense of ambition to serve the community where pupils’ academic journey represents a cradle to university principle.

We are delighted to announce that following a recent Ofsted inspection in July 2018 the academy has been judged 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features in terms of our early years provision and effectiveness of leadership and management.
