Teacher of Sociology and Religious Education job summary
‘The function of Sociology, as of every science, is to reveal that which is hidden’ - Pierre Bourdieu
Our pupils love Sociology, with a significant uptake at both GCSE and A level. We want a teacher who loves their subject to inspire our pupils in both Sociology and RE. It’s what we prize above all else. Whatever your level of experience in the classroom, it’s your passion for your subject that counts.
Whether you are beginning your career as an NQT or you have been teaching Sociology and RE for decades, to really inspire the next generation of sociologists you need an environment with the right conditions. You need an environment where pupils genuinely want to learn. An environment in which your colleagues are as geeky about your subject as you are.
With our unparalleled professional development opportunities, you will be able to progress in your career, whatever stage you are at. For instance, if you are currently training and looking for a school which nurtures NQTs, we can guarantee you a tailored programme of support which goes well above and beyond to make sure you thrive. There are copious opportunities for working with international schools and higher education providers. We also run a fully-funded
Masters programme on site, which is open to all.
We need a talented teacher of Sociology and RE who has the passion to provide pupils with the best possible experience of this fascinating subject. Could it
be you?

The word ‘outstanding’ appears a lot in advertisements for teachers – but at Barr Beacon School, it means more. With over 1000 requests for the 252 places available in Year 7 this September, parents would certainly agree. When Ofsted last visited, they merely confirmed what we already knew.
How have we achieved all of this?
Quite simply, we employ teachers who are as ambitious, passionate and dedicated as we are. These amazing people work hard – in fact they work very hard – to ensure that our pupils make the best progress they possibly can.
Whether they are the most able or or the least able, the most advantaged or the least advantaged, every child deserves nothing less than the very best teaching.
Not surprisingly, there’s a real buzz about the place. If you would like to be part of it – and teach children who genuinely want to learn – we would love to hear from you.
