What skills and experience we're looking for
The successful applicant will be expected to teach a range of Vocational BTec Subjects, up to Level 2 as well as GCSE subjects, having the ability to inspire and challenge students’ attitude towards learning, through their passion and knowledge. Only applications from those with Qualified Teacher Status will be considered for this post.
What the school offers its staff
The Ladder School suits staff with a Pastoral background, or those staff who wish to work with students that display challenging behaviour.
Most importantly, we are looking for staff who thrive in working as a close-knit team, who want to be as supportive with colleagues as they are with students.
The Ladder School has small class sizes (no more than 8 students) and is a unique, innovative school with a new purpose built building in the centre of Walsall.
The school has a supportive staff team and values people, appreciating the contributions of others and taking nothing for granted. CPD is offered within the school, the Trust and beyond. The school has a sensible approach to work/life balance with fewer students, there is less marking, with fewer year groups there are fewer after school events, a smaller team of staff means more collaboration to reduce unnecessary work.

We are an Alternative Provision Free School located in Walsall Town Centre. The Ladder School was established in January 2019 and has now moved in to a brand new, purpose-built building based on the edge of Walsall town centre where there are excellent links to the local and wider community. Over the coming years we will continue to grow and become the ‘go to place’ for alternative provision in the borough.
At The Ladder School, we recognise that mainstream school does not suit all young people and we are here to offer a second chance. We work on a commissioning basis, that means that a school or the Local Authority must approach to place a student. Unfortunately, we cannot accept direct referrals from parents/carers.
The staff work incredibly hard to ensure our students make the most of the opportunities that they get whist they are with us. Unlike other alternative provisions, we offer a range of GCSE courses, supplemented with some vocational courses to ensure students get a well-rounded education.
We are a positive environment, that uses praise and encouragement to enable our students to see things differently. We have a set of values that underpin everything we do.
