The Year 6 curriculum at TDMS is delivered by a committed team of specialists in dedicated teaching rooms. Year 6 teachers teach a range of subjects and deliver the majority of the curriculum to our Year 6 students.
We aim to develop and foster a strong curiosity and understanding of the world around us, with a focus on high levels of engagement, enjoyment and progress.
General information
Students join The De Montfort school at the end of Year 5, therefore the principle focus of the Year 6 department is to prepare the students for the SAT assessments at the end of the academic year. The Year 6 department are located in their own dedicated area of the school, with excellent accommodation and resources. The department are responsible for the academic achievements and pastoral care of the Year 6 students.
Organisation of the Year 6 curriculum
The Year 6 department consists of another full-time specialist, in addition to the advertised role. The team is lead by a phase leader with accountability for academic delivery and pastoral support. They are supported by a lead teacher. Both leaders in the department are also Year 6 teachers. Year 6 teachers teach the majority of the curriculum to the Year 6 students, with PE and languages taught by subject specialists. Members of the department are tutors for a Year 6 tutor group.
