What skills and experience we're looking for

  • If you are enthusiastic, innovative, committed, conscientious and motivated to teach pupils with severe learning difficulties then this is the opportunity for you.
  • We look at barriers as obstacles to be overcome rather than reasons to not attempt something that is difficult and are very proud of the range of experiences our pupils have.
  • We require a teacher who is able to inspire a staff team and a small class of pupils with a wide range of additional needs.
  • We wish to appoint committed professionals who are lively and have a positive personality to join us.
  • We welcome teachers with a variety of backgrounds including teachers transferring from mainstream, ECT’s and those with special needs experience. Experience is less important than aptitude and enthusiasm.

We are a small school with big opportunities! Icknield is an Outstanding special school for pupils with severe learning difficulties aged 3-19 years.

However, the true beauty of our school is that we are a small site and everyone here is part of the close knit ‘Icknield Family’. We all know all of our children, each other and every individual in our family is valued and cared for.

We are highly ambitious for our pupils, and we follow our own personalised curriculum based on developing key attributes needed to maximise pupil’s ability to have a positive influence on and control over their own lives: PPICC (Personal, Physical, Independence, Cognition and Communication).

Our school’s strap line is ‘Your journey matters’ and that is true for both pupils and staff. Teaching and Learning takes place in small class groups with a high level of support and a well-differentiated curriculum to meet individual needs.
