What skills and experience we're looking for

Lodestar Academy is looking for a Teacher (SEND Interventions)to join our team and support our more vulnerable students to make progress in their learning, sometimes outside the classroom in non-traditional teaching environments such as outdoor education and off-site activities.

Our students require support to build trusting relationships with professionals and you will have high expectations and a belief that they can succeed.

We are a small but passionate team of alternative education providers who recently secured a 'good' judgement in our Ofsted inspection. We are part of The Thinking Schools Academy Trust, a family of schools across the South East and south West of England, united in our common goal of providing a transformative education to children and young people. If you are a Teacher who wants to change the world one young person at a time, we would be delighted to hear from you.

What the school offers its staff

Lodestar Academy is a dynamic academy based in Torbay, who have built an impressive reputation in the alternative education provision sector for young people aged 11-18. We believe that all young people have the capacity to learn, regardless of their life situation. And our aim is to open the door to learning for those - often with social, emotional and mental health needs - who have been excluded or marginalised.

Our academy will provide a safe, nurturing environment for 50 secondary-age students who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education. By prioritising academic achievement and introducing behaviour interventions and therapeutic support where necessary, it will enable them to re-integrate at the same key stage as their peers, and go on to access opportunities into employment and further education.

What our Trust will offer you:

  • Minimum starting salary £30,863 for all ECTs
  • With an outstanding Leadership and Management team, we are focused on providing our staff with bespoke CPD tailored to the stage they are at in their career.
  • Support from across the Trust to help you deliver outstanding teaching and learning through resources, mentoring and school visits
  • Reduced membership of a fully-equipped fitness suite and classes – located on the site of Brixham College and Plympton Academy.
  • Focus on staff wellbeing, including 24/ Employee Assistance Programme, free flu vaccinations, eye care vouchers.
  • Generous employer contribution to the Teachers Pension Scheme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • TSTARS Staff Recognition Programme, including seasonal rewards for all staff
  • Free parking in our staff car park
  • Refer a Friend Scheme
