What skills and experience we're looking for
Our school is looking for an experienced, passionate educator to fill the full-time role of a teacher within our short stay provision. This is a challenging but very rewarding role supporting a small cohort of children for a termly block of learning from schools across the Portsmouth area. You will be collaborating with the KS3 AP Phase leader, pupil support worker(s), turnaround team members and parents to ensure that our short stay students receive an excellent education.
Key responsibilities include teaching quality lessons that meets the needs of our students, implementing innovative teaching methods, carrying out assessment of students work as well as supporting other teachers and pupil support workers in their various roles. You will also be liaising with referring schools to ensure that they are up to date with the progress and success of their students.
To be successful as the teacher, you should be someone with a deep understanding of what it takes to teach students effectively. Top candidates will be excellent teachers, able to use their knowledge and skills to inspire our students to exceed their potential. The ability to make the role your own and build strong relationships is essential.
What the school offers its staff
We are a multi-site organisation which includes The Lighthouse provision, The Vista Campus, The Bay Campus and The Bridge Campus all based within the City of Portsmouth. We also have an Outreach Support Team, The Horizon, a Reintegration and Tuition service and Hospital tuition service at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
The Harbour School is an AP and SEMH school for students in Portsmouth. Our students range from year 5 up to year 11. We support students that have an EHCP for SEMH, those recovering from the trauma of permanent exclusion, those that unintentionally exclude themselves from education and children who cannot access school for medical reasons. At the Harbour School, we believe in a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to understanding behaviours in and out of the classroom. We believe in educational equity for all learners.
