Teaching Assistant 1 - Leagrave site for September 2024 job summary

Teaching Assistants are involved in INSET days and after school workshops to equip and train staff to work in our specialist setting.

Teaching Assistants are part of a class team to support pupils to access our specialist curriculum enable pupils to progress in areas such as communication, independence, wellbeing, movement and cognition and learning.

Knowledge of a range of special needs would be useful; however, we do provide a comprehensive induction and training programme.

We have a shallow water pool onsite. Teaching Assistants are expected to support pool-based lessons, this requires water competency and confidence rather than swimming skills.

Whilst experience with pupils with special needs is favoured, recruitment is also based on willingness to learn, and a clear identification with the school’s values. Our recruitment process involves practical engagement in our classrooms on the interview day.

This post meets the definition of ‘Regulated Activity’ as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (as amended).

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for an enhanced DBS check to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post.
