What skills and experience we're looking for
Under the direction of the Headteacher, the Teaching Assistant will:
- Give in-class support to teachers, facilitating pupils’ access to the curriculum including assisting teachers in practical subjects as required with priority being given to health and safety. To support the class teacher in displaying the children’s work.
- Under the direction of the teacher work with pupils, individually or in groups, including those with Statements of Special Educational Needs, implement action plans, providing assistance to allow access and participation in the Curriculum to maximise achievement.
- Attend and assist pupils with their hygiene, eating and general welfare requirements as necessary. To attend and assist pupils with intimate care.
- Assist in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the pupil’s learning, ensuring that progress is clearly recorded for that pupil, as directed by the class teacher.
- Under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils in understanding instructions and with learning, language, study skills, problem solving and to assist in maximising the use of ICT in the learning process.
- To help pupils develop their language and reasoning skills and to assist pupils in the organisation, preparation and display of set assignment tasks.
- Accompany Teaching staff on educational visits.
- To provide admin support to the class teacher including: Photocopying and collating documents, obtaining information from parents/carers, collecting money and distributing letters.
- Assist with administering routine tests and invigilate exams/tests and occasionally undertake marking of pupils’ work under direction.
- Support the school’s policy on discipline to ensure high standards of pupil behaviour.
- Implement appropriate specific skills programmes as may be arranged and directed by the SENCO and to complete weekly record sheets for additional support programmes.
- To play an appropriate part in safeguarding procedures, such as relating relevant factual information and recording/reporting disclosures to the designated safeguarding lead and attending all relevant training/updates.
- Administer basic first aid and record incidents/accidents in line with the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
