31.50 hours per week
Mon, Tue, Thurs & Fri - 8.55am - 3.25pm
Wed 8.55am - 4.55pm
Term time plus an additional 5 days for INSET
Our teaching assistants undertake regular training to develop their skills for our specialist setting. HLTAs attend 5 INSET days per year and 1.5hrs training/meeting time per week. There are opportunities to progress within our TA structure leading to a UQT position. Over the past 20 years we have had many TAs acquire degrees and move on to attain qualified teacher status. LZW school is committed to best practice and improvement for all – pupils and staff.
Teaching Assistants are part of a class team to support pupils to access our specialist curriculum enable pupils to progress in areas such as communication, independence, wellbeing, movement and cognition and learning.
Knowledge of a range of special needs would be useful; however, we do provide a comprehensive induction and training programme.
We have a shallow water pool onsite. Teaching Assistants are expected to support pool-based lessons, this requires water competency and confidence rather than swimming skills.
Whilst experience with pupils with special needs is favoured, recruitment is also based on willingness to learn, and a clear identification with the school’s values. Our recruitment process involves practical engagement in our classrooms on the interview day.

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for an enhanced DBS check to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020).
