Teaching Assistant job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our collaborative and growing academy team as a Teaching Assistant.

Your opportunity

This is an exciting position, which could offer excellent career progression and development. The purpose of your role will be to support individuals and groups of students to enable access to learning, contributing to the development and maintenance of a purposeful, nurturing learning environment, with responsibilities including:

Assisting in the development of appropriate resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies, working with the teacher to ensure the provision supports each identified student’s learning needs.
Assisting in evaluating identified students’ progress through agreed assessment activities.
Leading small group sessions and interventions as appropriate.
Attending to the students’ personal needs where required.
Supporting with behaviour management
Undertaking structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes as appropriate, adjusting activities to ensure achievement of learning goals.
Assisting with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including playtimes and undertaking lunchtime duty.
Encouraging students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
Preparing the classroom as directed for lessons and clear afterwards and assist with the display of students’ work.
Preparing and maintaining equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist students in their use.
Providing clerical/admin support as required e.g. photocopying, typing, filing.

What we are looking for:

Ideally the person we are looking for will have the minimum of a Level 3 equivalent qualification, be passionate about education and have a flair for working with young people. The position would also suit a university graduate interested in gaining initial classroom experience as a Teaching Assistant, or those looking to start a career path in Teaching. The successful candidate will have:

Education to degree level or equivalent, ideally with a degree in English, maths or science
Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours, and of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
Experience of working directly with young people in an education or training environment, supporting the learning of students.
Experience of establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, at all levels.
Experience of managing and being responsible for own workload.
