What skills and experience we're looking for

Seven Hills School requires a number of enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistants who would enjoy working in a happy and supportive school.

The successful candidates will join us to complete a strong team and contribute to the school’s success. Candidates need to have a calm, friendly and positive approach to all our students and be able to demonstrate a commitment to being part of our caring school community.

Governors are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals who are able to relate well to young people with a range of complex needs including severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, physical disabilities and communication difficulties.  In common with many other special schools, pupils admitted have increasingly complex behavioural needs.

What the school offers its staff

You will need to work collaboratively within a staff team and with visiting therapists. The successful applicants will provide high quality support for the learning, personal care, communication and physical needs of students, working across a range of ages and abilities.

You should have experience of managing students with challenging behaviour, be Team Teach trained and have a willingness to develop this further. As a Teaching Assistant you are required to take an interest in each child, encouraging their learning and development and ensuring their safety.

The school has a large post 16 provision based at The Bridge, which is a site on the Talbot/Newfield campus at Norton Lees S8. We have vacancies at this site and at the main school on Granville Road, staff may be required to work at either site, this will be dependent on the skills and experience of the applicant.

Teaching Assistants also contribute towards students’ formal and informal assessment and help build effective relationships between home and school.

All Teaching Assistants are required to be proficient in Safe Moving and Handling techniques and Team Teach.  Training will be provided as necessary. A knowledge of Makaton, basic ICT skills and experience of working with students with disabilities, learning difficulties, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour would be an advantage but professionals with a positive attitude who are committed to their own professional development will also be considered.
