What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Ability to successfully support pupils working in either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2
  • Current experience of working in a setting subject to Health & Safety, Hygiene and Child Welfare & Protection regulations
  • Some understanding of the basic milestones of child development
  • Proven successful experience of working with children
  • English GCSE or equivalent qualification at Grade C/Grade 4 or above
  • Maths GCSE or equivalent qualification at Grade C/Grade 4 or above or Level 2 Basic Skills literacy/numeracy
  • Have a good level of knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning
  • Ability to acquire new skills
  • Be able to take responsibility for adapting and personalising planning to suit a child
  • Able to exercise initiative and independent action
  • Be able to transfer theory/training into practice and demonstrate skills of problem solving, drawing on relevant experience
  • Ability to carry out duties without supervision
  • Be able to exercise initiative and independent action
  • Be proactive in offering ideas
  • A good sense of humour
  • A calm and patient manner
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to form positive relationships with children and colleagues
  • Ability to contribute effectively to the workload and responsibilities of a team

Desirable:

  • Experience of delivering small group interventions
  • Experience of Early Years
  • Experience of supporting children with complex additional needs
  • Other relevant GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C/ Grade 4 or above in at least three other academic subjects
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • An NVQ Level 2 Qualification
  • Be able to present information effectively, verbally and in writing for others
  • Confident at using IT
  • Be creative and imaginative
  • Have an understanding of medical needs
  • To have a good record of attendance
