What skills and experience we're looking for

1.Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting high self-esteem and independence

2.Adapt communication style to respond to pupils according to their individual needs

3.Support pupils with their social, emotional and mental health needs, escalating concerns where appropriate

4.Promote high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in line with the school’s behaviour policy and guidelines on physical intervention

5.Assist with the development and delivery of individual education and support plans

6.Under the direction of the teacher, provide support for pupils, either in small groups or a 1-1 basis, including those with special educational/health needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning

Support for the Curriculum

1.Support pupils to understand instructions from the teacher.

2.Contribute to the planning of differentiated learning activities for individual or small groups of pupils with special educational needs (SEN), delivering activities inside or outside the classroom

3.

Support children with accessing learning activities by scaffolding their learning as directed by the class teacher

4.Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning

5.Use IT skills to advance pupils’ learning

6.Through observations, provide regular feedback to teachers on pupil progress, attainment and barriers to learning

7.Support class teachers with maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment

8.Monitor, record and report on progress and attainment

9.Supervise a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable

10.Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school

11.Undertake any other relevant duties given by the class teacher or SEN co-ordinator (SENCO)

General Tasks

1.Assist with the supervision of pupils during lesson times, social times including lunchtimes

2.Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

3.Attend relevant meetings as required and participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.

4.Accompany teaching staff and pupils on trips and visits and other school activities as required.

5.Select, prepare and clear away classroom materials and learning areas ensuring they are available for use, including developing and presenting displays

6.Communicate effectively with parents and carers under the direction of teachers

7.Contribute to meetings with parents and carers by providing feedback on pupil progress, attainment and barriers to learning, as directed by teachers

Safeguarding

    • Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our school safeguarding and child protection policies
    • Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school

Located in Swinton, Manchester, Broadoak Primary is a heavily over subscribed school with nearly 500 children including a 60 place full-time Nursery. The school converted to a Single Academy in 2011 and achieved Ofsted Outstanding in 2009.
