Becton School is as unique as it is wonderful and as complex as it is caring. Over the past 4 years it has grown considerably and the number of pupils it supports has almost quadrupled. Initially Becton School worked solely with patients at the Becton Centre for Children and Young People, a residential Tier 4 CAMHs unit. However we now encompass 3 other separate (and also complex) sites all working with a different cohort of pupils. The staff at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital work with patients admitted for a wide variety of medical needs. The Kenwood centre has just completed its 3rd year and is a site for pupils with Autism and Mental Health Issues (These pupils require an EHCP and are fully on our roll). Whilst the Moncrieffe Centre supports pupils in Sheffield who are medically too ill to attend school, whether this is due to Mental or physical health.

Because of the stark difference in cohorts and the fact that geographically they are on 4 separate sites we have split the Schools Evaluation and Action Plan into 5 sections. One section for each specific site and one section as an overview of the School as a whole. The school action plan will detail the time line for the action and the success will be RAG rated starting in October 18. This will be regularly reviewed and success shown will be in the form of a RAG rating throughout the year.

Site specific Self Evaluations have been initially completed by the middle leader on the site in conjunction with the SLT member that line manages them. These have then been used by the headteacher and SLT to write the Whole school Self Evaluation and to write the School’s Action Plan. The SEAP Will be updated half-termly throughout the year. The purpose of this overview is to give an accurate view of where we are as a whole school, celebrate our strengths and also to highlight the areas we need to develop and continue to improve. This overview along with the detailed site by site analysis will feed into the School Development plan in order to address the areas for development.

Becton School is a GOOD School, which is moving in the direction of Outstanding. The key strengths for Becton School and the main areas for development in the primary Ofsted Categories are below and have been categorised using the system below.

The school joined the Nexus Multi Academy Trust on 1st of April 2020 after a 2-year process. This will help to aid strategic development of growth and will allow for additional areas for cross school working alongside another opportunity for constructive scrutiny and support.
