What skills and experience we're looking for

Pickhurst Infant Academy are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to provide for the educational, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development for each individual child in their class and to support the overall development of the school. You will need to be caring, hardworking, willing to undergo training and most of all, enjoy working with children. Previous experience of working with children is essential, preferably in a primary school or early years setting.

Pickhurst Infant Academy is based in a leafy part of West Wickham, in the London Borough of Bromley. It is a four-form entry Infant school with a strong community feel and passionate staff who ensure that every child’s needs are met through high quality, personalised teaching and learning. In January 2022, Pickhurst was graded ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted.

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. The school is surrounded by extensive, well- maintained grounds, its very own Forest School, allotments, pond and sensory garden. Reception and Year 1 have very well-resourced outdoor classrooms which are used daily. Our sensory and nurture rooms are spaces carefully designed to support children’s emotional regulation. Our school therapy dog, Bruno, is always on standby to lend a helping paw too.

There is no doubt that the children, teachers, staff team and Local Committee members pride themselves on the achievements of the school and all work hard to maintain very high standards and the school’s strong reputation.

Children love learning at Pickhurst. Our school performs above the national average for overall education attainment. We excel in providing a stimulating learning environment for our children and there are many enrichment-based activities such as an extensive offer of after school clubs, visits by experts into school, outdoor learning experiences and high quality, tailored provision to stretch and challenge all of our learners.
