Job summary

The governors wish to appoint a teaching assistant to raise standards.

This post will be for 20 hours a week, on a fixed-term contract. In the first instance this position will be until the end of the Summer Term 2020. We are looking for someone who would like to work 20 hours a week, in the mornings. The purpose of this new post is to provide additional support to pupils who are currently lower attaining. This will involve both one-to-one support and small group work (up to 3 pupils). A structured programme of additional input for these pupils will be planned by the classteacher. Guidance on the delivery of this programme, along with further professional development, will be offered. The Teaching Assistant may also be required to help supervise and support children in the playground at break time and lunch time.

This is an ideal post for someone wanting a short-term experience – nearly two terms - in a school. You may be looking to train to be a teacher in the near future and need this valuable experience on your curriculum vitae. You might be taking a gap year prior to starting university. Equally, you could be someone with a responsibility for very young children who wants a short-term, part-time role. You might even be between jobs and want to try out a new experience.

Applications from candidates with relevant experience of working with children are encouraged, but this is not essential.

We are an exciting, highly successful, restlessly ambitious community school situated one mile from Richmond Park in south west London. This is a highly successful, aspirational organisation that is committed to continual improvement. We want children to leave this school having achieved high standards in the basic skills. In addition, we wish to inspire them by offering a broad, balanced, dynamic curriculum experience that includes exciting opportunities in the arts, music, computing and sport.

We can offer you a beautiful learning environment, excellent resources, great children and the chance to work alongside talented, supportive colleagues. It is a great place to learn.

Visits to the school are both welcomed and encouraged and can be made by: telephoning Steph Dennis, the school’s KS1 front of house, on the number given above.

An application pack containing further details about this position can be obtained in the same way.

The closing date for applications is: Monday 7th December 2020 at 9am
A selection process is scheduled to be held on: Wednesday 9th December 2020

At Barnes we take the safeguarding of children extremely seriously. All applications will be thoroughly scrutinised and we will do everything in our power to prevent unsuitable adults from working with our children. All selection processes at our school are designed to identify and reject anyone who is unsuitable for work with children. At least one member of our selection panel will have attended a safer recruitment training course and gained certification. All staff working at Barnes will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before taking up post. There is a culture of ongoing vigilance that ensures children are safe and secure with the adults they come into contact with at all times. References will be sought and checked and all staff are fully aware of the actions they should take if they have any concerns about the behaviour of a fellow staff member towards children.
