What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and innovative Teaching Assistant to join our highly effective reading intervention team from September 2024.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Teaching Assistant to deliver small group intervention to students struggling with reading skills and phonics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4; we would welcome applicants with experience of supporting students in either a primary or secondary setting. This member of staff will contribute to the life chances of the young people in our school community and our vision that all students leave Cantell School being able to read at, or above, age level.

The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching small intervention groups at either Primary or Secondary level, and will be able to show initiative and creativity to monitor and support students’ needs to ensure they make rapid progress in reading. Training and regular support will be provided to deliver our reading programs.

This role would suit a candidate looking for either full or part-time hours. Availability from 8.15am onwards is essential.

The salary offered is between £26,609 and £28,770 (FTE) to be pro rata to 39 weeks per year and term time only, 37 hrs per week so between £22,873 and £25,506.

We wish to appoint candidates with:

  • Ability to promote high quality teaching and learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills
  • A passion for improving students' lives and opportunities
  • High levels of ambition and drive for outstanding performance from staff and students

The school is committed to safeguarding children and all applicants are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
