What skills and experience we're looking for

Thank you for your enquiry about the key post of Teaching Assistant for Deaf Learners at The Elmgreen School. Our Resource Base for Deaf Learners is the specialist provision for Deaf learners for Lambeth, and we currently have 15 students who are supported through the provision. We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to work as part of our inclusion team who has a passion to see all students succeed and a commitment to ensuring that the students at The Elmgreen School share that passion. You should be able to demonstrate successful experience of supporting Deaf Learners.

Key Responsibilities

To undertake curriculum, care and support programmes, to enable access to learning for students who are part of the Resource base for Deaf Learners. To assist the teacher and Resource Base Lead in the management of students working either in the classroom or with smaller groups of students or one to one.

Support for Students

  • Use specialist communication skills to support Deaf students in both communication and learning
  • Supervise and provide particular support for students identified on the Special Educational Needs Register, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities

Support for Teachers

  • Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment, including preparation prior to the start of the lesson
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of progress against pre-determined learning objectives
