Teaching Assistant job summary

Scholes (Elmet) Primary School is a happy and healthy place to learn. It's also a happy and healthy place to work.

We have vacancies for teaching assistants to join our friendly team from September.

We want people who demonstrate personal qualities of dedication, patience, flexibility and humour. They will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as respond quickly to the changing needs of the school and individual children. The ideal candidates must have good skills in English and Maths.

All applicants who can demonstrate strong skills and experience will be welcomed. Recently qualified graduates who are interested in a career in teaching are particularly encouraged to apply. (The posts offer an opportunity to gain valuable insight into primary education; we work closely with a School Direct provider and will support staff on this route into teaching.)

Potential applicants are welcome to visit the school by prior arrangement.

For children and staff alike, Sphere Federation has:
- A perfect balance of care and support with high expectations
- A leadership team dedicated to attainment, achievement and enjoyment
- Friendly, welcoming staff
- A great atmosphere and ethos which promotes inclusion and co-operation
- A commitment to diversity and a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare and safety (thorough checks will be made of the successful applicant’s background credentials, including enhanced DBS checks)

For further information and an insight into our schools please check out our websites.

The posts are for term time only and will be for around 31.5 hours per week. The posts are temporary in the first instance until 31 August 2023 with a possibility of becoming permanent after this time.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds.

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website or see here.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
