Teaching Assistant job summary

As part of The King’s School’s initiative to enhance and develop our supportive SEND provision, we are delighted to announce an opening for a Teaching Assistant. Our current SEND team have created a student support centre with a calm, caring and happy environment for students with special educational needs and would welcome visits from potential candidates.
The preferred start date for this position is January 2021, however we would consider a later start for the right candidate.
The post is offered on the basis of term time (38 weeks per year) plus 32.5 additional hours over the year to complete supplementary departmental duties and training. GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics along with excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to empathise with students whilst working closely with them both in the classroom and the student support centre to achieve the very best outcomes. The successful candidate should be highly organised but flexible to adapt to the changing needs of SEND students.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
