Teaching Assistant/Welfare Assistant job summary
The Bridge School are seeking to appoint a permanent Teaching Assistant/Welfare Assistant on a permanent contract. Start date: As soon as possible
32.5 hours per week39 Weeks per year. (Term time plus 5 INSET days) Term time hours of work: Monday - Friday 08.30 until 3.20 pm each day other than Tuesday finish time of 4.20 pm for staff meetings. Start date: As soon as possible
Grade 14 £14,426 - £15,010 Actual annual gross salary - dependent on experience.
We are looking for teaching assistants and welfare assistants to support both our teaching and learning team and our welfare team.
Teaching Assistants: You will support teaching and learning across the school. Working 1:1 and with small groups of students you will support the class teacher to deliver planned learning opportunities and targeted interventions. You will support the centre manager and teachers to ensure the learning environment is always well presented.
Welfare Assistants: Working as part of the in-house welfare team you will provide mentoring support to students who need a little bit extra. You will support students’ attendance and work alongside the safeguarding team to ensure we keep our young people safe. You will have a case load of students that you work with on a 1:1 basis offering targeted interventions and support to be enable students to access their learning. You will also provide support around behaviour incidents.
The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is the Pupil Referral Unit for mainstream schools in Sedgemoor. We support a number of students aged from 4 - 16 years old, where they are at risk of, or have been, permanently excluded from mainstream schools. We also have a number of students with identified SEN needs who have EHCPs and are placed at The Bridge by the local authority. We also provide education for students who cannot access school for medical reasons.
We are looking for dynamic, positive, creative and resilient practitioners who can support children and young people across the school.
The post-holder will need to be able to problem solve, show empathy and resilience and be able to support children and young people with complex needs. They may be required to support with challenging behaviours, liaise with parents and carers and work 1:1 and with small groups of students.You may also be required to take students off-site and in to the community to support them with their educational or welfare programmes.
You will be expected to demonstrate:
- Excellent Communication skills
- An understanding of how children and young people learn
- An ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families
- Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is one of four Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset County Council and Somerset schools. We provide services through a number of centres for students who have a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All students are referred through their mainstream schools in the Sedgemoor area.
