Teaching Assistant with Cover Supervisor Responsibilites job summary

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant, with Cover Supervisor responsibilities, to join our team here at Danesholme Junior Academy!

Working: Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:45pm with 1 hour for lunch.

We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic, and adaptable Teaching Assistant who:

  • Can build relationships with and nurture pupils to enable positive educational outcomes.
  • Experience working in a classroom setting, ideally with responsibility for whole-class supervision.
  • Confidence in managing behaviour and delivering lessons from prepared plans.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teaching teams.
  • A positive, resilient individual who values inclusion and contributes to the wider life of the school.
  • A relevant qualification or experience in education (Level 3 or above is desirable but not essential).

This role is essential in ensuring continuity of learning when teachers are absent or require PPA cover. You will lead whole-class teaching under an agreed system of supervision, following prepared plans and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering whole-class lessons during teacher absence or PPA time, ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task.
  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively and promoting a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils’ learning and wellbeing, including working with small groups or individuals when required.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff to maintain high standards of learning.
  • Upholding safeguarding procedures and modelling the school’s values at all times.
