What skills and experience we're looking for

The Harris Federation is looking to appoint a new Teaching & Learning Consultant to join our established team of central primary consultants. We are interested to hear from experienced primary practitioners who would like to further develop their leadership experience within a highly collaborative and supportive environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an inspiring and highly motivated teacher to join a team of experienced specialists, and to work with senior leaders from across the Federation to help impact on the quality of teaching within our primary academies.

If you are an inspirational and talented leader who shares our vision and ethos for education, then we want to hear for you.

We are looking for:

  • QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree
  • At least three years' teaching experience in the UK, and at least two years in primary leadership
  • Experience of setting specific targets and managing improvement in the primary phase
  • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum
  • Flexibility to travel to Harris academies

What the school offers its staff

Primary Education at Harris consists of 23 academies around London, with most located in areas of disadvantage, but many of which are amongst the highest performing in the country.

Our vision for Harris primary academies is that every child is safe, happy and respected. Despite in many cases replacing schools that had been considered failing by Ofsted, today the majority of Harris primaries are rated “Outstanding” and the others are “Good”.

By Year 6, the proportion of our pupils meeting expected standards in reading, writing and maths is well above average. Disadvantaged pupils, those with SEND and with English as an additional language all surpass national scores for their cohorts.

In addition to opportunities for career progression, training and development, we also offer a competitive rewards and benefits package which includes a Performance and Loyalty Bonus, Pension Scheme, electric car scheme, a Wellbeing Cash Plan and many other benefits.

Further details about the role

This is a unique opportunity to fast track your career. You will have the chance to gain new skills and expertise, and to extend your understanding of different leadership and teaching approaches. The role involves coaching and mentoring, team teaching classes, modelling best practice, assisting in the recruitment of outstanding teachers, and developing CPD opportunities. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work with our ITE team, offering subject mentoring to Harris trainee teachers.

Whilst consultants have a base at Head Office in Croydon, they spend the vast majority of their time working on-site at academies.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Harris Federation and all our academies are committed to ensuring the highest levels of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, references, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants. Before applying, please review our Policy Statement on the Recruitment of Ex-Offenders.

Making an impact
Educating 1 in 41 young people in London, we have a track record of achieving success through rapid school improvement, and a reputation for running outstanding academies. Our focus is on the most challenging schools in London and turning them into places where every young person has access to a high-quality education.

Commitment to young people in London
Unlike other large multi-academy trusts, we are committed to transforming schools in London and the surrounding areas. This focus on localisation means we intimately know the communities we work in and have the expertise to help our young people from these backgrounds to succeed. It also allows us to build a much stronger whole Federation network, collaborating more closely to share best working practices across our academies.

Centralised support
To ensure our academies can deliver exceptional education to our young people, we provide them with a strong support provision. Our dedicated central team supports all 55 of our academies, acting as a central hub with expertise in Finance, HR, Compliance, Estates, Audit, Recruitment, and IT, and many more. This centralised structure takes away much of the educational administration from our academy colleagues, allowing them to focus on what they do best – developing bright futures for our young people.

Experts in education
We are focused solely on education and have a team of experienced senior leaders who drive our ambition to deliver outstanding learning opportunities to as many young people as possible. Our organisation is led by people who have extensive experience working in education and know exactly what it is like to be at the forefront of teaching.
