Temporary Teacher of Biology (Maternity Cover) job summary

Are you an innovative, enthusiastic and passionate Biologist?
Then this will be the job for you.

This post provides a unique opportunity to work within a high-performing and growing 11 to 18 grammar school with a large sixth-form and exceptional students.

Department Information

Biology has a team of experienced specialist teachers and three technicians. The teachers are passionate about their subject and believe that learning Biology should be engaging and lead to high levels of student attainment. Our lessons are challenging and varied, with high standards of teaching and learning, and we support each other, sharing ideas and resources.

The department has five well-equipped modern laboratories, a large staff office and a dedicated prep room. We make good use of practical work and the school’s excellent ICT resources to support imaginative and innovative teaching. We also organise a field trip in each key stage (including a residential trip to Malham Tarn in Y12) to enrich the practical experience of our students.

In Biology, we follow the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) specification. Achievement is very high; with 97% of students being awarded a grade 9-5 and 74% of students achieving grade 9-7.

Over 300 students study Biology at A-level, following the Edexcel “B” A-level specification. Our students achieve good results at A-level, with over 61% of grades at A*-B. Almost all A-level Biology students continue to University, many studying medicine or related degrees and various branches of science.

Experienced colleagues provide wide-ranging expertise, which is shared throughout the department.
