An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Therapy Assistant alongside the Speech and Language Therapy team and the Occupational Therapist. Capella House is a new co-educational specialist school opened to secondary pupils in September 2019 at its Secondary site and to primary pupils in September 2021at its Primary site, both situated in Twickenham. A special school for pupils aged 4 to 16 with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) as their primary need. Capella House pupils may have other additional needs including ASD, ADHD, Sensory issues or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Classes will have up to 7 pupils and will be supported by HLTAs, TAs and Therapists.
We are looking for enthusiastic, committed and highly flexible candidates who have the motivation and ability to work collaboratively and actively contribute to shaping this new school. Capella House is an inclusive school so candidates must have strong communication skills, be fast learners and the ability to work as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. The Therapy Assistants will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support the inclusion of speech and language therapy and occupational therapy within the classroom environment.
The Therapy Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
supporting pupils to develop communication skills
developing, preparing and maintaining therapeutic materials
working with pupils, with regular monitoring and therapy programme adjustment by a Speech or Occupational Therapist
supporting and facilitating group therapy activities both in class and in smaller groups
preparing resources to support the environment in school and at home.
supporting the clerical and administrative tasks
You will be working in a friendly and supportive working environment and will be able to access training and development opportunities. You will access clinical supervision and peer support.
