Trainee Educational Psychologist job summary

Due to upcoming staffing changes effective from September 2026, there is a risk that the EP Team may become all-male. In light of this, we have an occupational requirement to recruit a female into the EP Team, in line with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act (2010). This is due to the nature of the EP role, in that the EP Team occasionally needs to work with vulnerable children and young people who, due to their lived experiences, may not engage well with a male. We have therefore decided to take positive, proportionate action to welcome applications from females only.

Bright Futures Educational Trust is looking for a dynamic and passionate Trainee Educational Psychologist to join our Educational Psychology and Specialist Outreach (EPSO) Team.

We are looking for candidates for a September 2025 start on a 2 year fixed term contract; ideally those who will have just started their second year of doctoral training.

The role of the Educational Psychologist is not only integral to pupils’ learning and development but is also uniquely innovative in its approach, with links to the University of Manchester and working across the Trust on strategic initiatives and approaches.

Our Educational Psychologists are recognized as leaders and innovators within their field providing expert and highly specialized advice, supervision, strategic planning and training for staff, students, parents and carers.

Have experience in managing change within short timescales

Have experience of using a range of assessment techniques with children and young people

Have strong interpersonal and communication skills

Have the ability to use initiative, generate ideas and creative solutions

Show excellent attention to detail
