What skills and experience we're looking for

The Post

An experienced and professional Finance Officer is sought for this role in our centralised team, working across our Trust. The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the CFO in managing the day-to-day operations within the Finance Team and managing the duties undertaken by the Finance Assistant. The finance function is centralised, providing payroll and finance services to the three schools it serves.

The role is varied and requires someone who can manage their workload and the workload of the team effectively. They are responsible for ensuring that they and the team completes tasks accurately and within the deadlines set in order that the CFO can produce the monthly monitoring reports

The job role includes: bank reconciliations, VAT returns, daily and month end tasks, procurement and the Sixth Form Bursary. Candidates should have excellent communication and customer service skills; excellent organisation skills with an ability to use their initiative; excellent ICT skills and a high level of professionalism and ability to recognise and maintain confidentiality.

Experience of working within a school and PS Financials is desirable. AAT qualifications are desirable. Training will be provided and opportunities for professional examinations such as AAT are supported and encouraged.

It currently consists of three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 years, mixed selective school in the heart of Canterbury, rated “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2020; The Charles Dickens School, an 11-16 years mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs, rated “Good” by Ofsted in March 2023 and Barton Manor Free School, an 11–18 years non-selective mixed school in the heart of Canterbury which opened to Year 7 in September 2022 and as the school grows now has Y7, 8 and 9 from September 2024.

Barton Court Grammar School is an Advanced Thinking School and a National Support School (NSS) and the Trust’s Executive Headteacher a National Leader of Education (NLE).
