Trust Lead for English job summary

We are seeking an expert leader of English to lead our English strategy across the Trust. A deep understanding of excellence in curriculum and pedagogy, and a belief in the importance of subject specialism and evidence-based approaches will be critical for the role. A key priority for the role will be to rapidly, but sustainably, raise standards in English across our schools. We are also committed to ensuring all our young people can read well. One of our top Trust goals is to provide the ‘gift of reading’.

You will work collaboratively, with English leaders and teachers across our schools to develop a thriving subject community. You will support the delivery of curriculum excellence in all our schools and provide coaching and feedback to improve teaching. You will lead in a way that will secure sustainable excellence but also know how to devise and implement raising standards strategies that lead to rapid improvement.

This is predominantly a secondary role, but there is potential for cross-phase collaboration with this exciting Trust-wide role.

You will have a passion for your subject and a belief in the importance of ensuring all young people have access to powerful knowledge, alongside valuing the impact of rich, cultural enrichment opportunities. You will know that such opportunities open doors for pupils, broaden their horizons and foster a love for English and reading. This is most critical for vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils.

You will know how to support subject leaders to drive improvement across their teams and will have a proven track record of improving standards of English. You will have expertise in the teaching of reading. You will be an excellent subject practitioner. The post-holder will teach. Teaching is at the heart of what we do and holding a teaching commitment supports that important principle. There is flexibility around the teaching commitment, which will not be full time, and this can be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.
