Verbal Behaviour Trainee - The Avenue School job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Verbal Behavior Trainee to join our vibrant and welcoming specialist school. This post will provide in house training programme to from our verbal behavior specialist staff and provides an excellent learning opportunity. Our staff teams are positive and enthusiastic about ensuring all pupils reach their unique potential by offering a broad and balanced curriculum personalised to meet their individual needs. We believe in inspiring pupils in their learning through offering irresistible learning experiences.

What is Verbal Behaviour?

  • Verbal Behaviour is an approach that applies behavioural principles to language development.
  • Teaching methodologies used are evidence based and developed from an initial text written by Skinner.
  • Verbal Behaviour focusses on the reasons why we engage in different types of communication.
  • It helps us identify areas of communication that our pupils find difficult and how to teach them most effectively.
  • Verbal Behaviour doesn’t just have to be vocal communication.
  • Individuals can engage in Verbal Behaviour in multiple modes using sign language, communication books, electronic devices etc.
  • All of our teaching is delivered in the context of the Multi Agency Support the individual receives.

We are looking for:

  • Someone with excellent communication skills
  • Applicants who have the willingness to learn
  • Applicants who have a keen interest in developing skills in Verbal Behavious
  • Some experience or knowledge of autism and/or severe learning difficulties would be an advantage
  • Applicants who are interested in developing their knowledge and understanding in evidence based teaching methods (or in Verbal Behaviour/ABA).
