What skills and experience we're looking for

The Academy is looking to appoint a new Vice Principal who is an outstanding, motivated and credible leader who will enhance the strong and committed Leadership Team and contribute to the future success of the Academy.

We also recognise the need for continual improvement and are clear on our priorities and areas for development. As Vice Principal you will have a key role in supporting the Principal in delivering inspiring, motivational and purposeful leadership for all Academy stakeholders, having the highest possible expectations for all pupils and staff.

The successful candidate is likely to be the strategic lead for driving progress, curriculum and the quality of education although there is scope for discussion around specific responsibilities. The priority is to recruit an exceptional leader who is flexible in terms of their commitment to the aims and priorities of the Academy, who has a proven track record and has the passion and determination to lead Academy wide improvement.

We are looking for a leader with a proven track record of success in their current role and able to demonstrate they have improved outcomes for pupils. They will be an excellent communicator who leads with high standards of personal integrity, loyalty and professionalism which gains the respect of staff, pupils, parents and carers. They will lead with positivity and be motivated to ensure that the academy’s vision and values are realised and delivered consistently and effectively. S/he will ensure that the needs of the young people are met through high quality teaching and support that maximises all pupils’ potential and enables them to become enthusiastic and independent learners. Most importantly, they will have a passion for education and pupil’s learning, with the determination to make a positive difference and commitment to continuous improvement.

What the school offers its staff

Ossett Academy is a popular and successful 11-19 Academy, with over 1,700 pupils including 227 in the Accord Sixth Form which is based on site. We pride ourselves on our high standards across all aspects of Academy life. This includes high academic attainment and a wide of variety of extra-curricular opportunities.

The Academy performs at a consistently strong level in public examinations and in our most recent Ofsted Inspection (November 2022) we were rated as Good.

The Academy is part of Accord Multi Academy Trust which was established in September 2016 and is currently made up of four academies who were the founding members of the Trust. The academies are in close proximity which creates excellent opportunities for strong collaboration between all leaders. This culture has been instrumental in allowing the academies and the Trust to meet the many challenges in education in a coherent, co-ordinated, and effective way with the mutual support and challenge enriching each of the academies and the Trust.

The Trust recognises the pivotal role its staff play in providing world class education for all our young people within our community and your professional development will be a priority. There will be opportunities to lead and engage in Trust wide development strategies working as part of the Trust Senior Leadership Team.

Ossett Academy is part of the Accord Multi Academy Trust which is a Wakefield based Trust; all four academies in the Trust are closely located to one another which lends itself to many opportunities to work closely and collaboratively.
