What skills and experience we're looking for

Our students follow an academic core curriculum throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. This includes the study of History, Geography and a Language as well as English, Maths and Science. But our students also have the opportunity to do a range of practical and vocational subjects including a wide range of creative and performing arts, physical education and other humanities like Business studies, Psychology and Economics.

Mathematics is a successful, large and supportive department. We deliberately have a mix of experience levels within the teaching team, finding that this gives us the best combination for our students. We have an excellent record on staff retention and the training and professional development of staff is at the core of our ethos.

With regard to the curriculum, we are currently in the process of migrating to a Mastery based approach across KS3 and KS4 with a view to developing stronger lifelong mathematics skills and see this as an exciting opportunity.

All of our students are entered for the Mathematics GCSE. We also consider, on a student by student basis, whether each student would benefit from access to other courses and qualifications. We enter some students for the Entry Level Certificate, as well as having the opportunity to prepare high achieving students to take the FMSQ Additional Mathematics qualification.

We are a very popular department for KS5 students. Our Mathematics and Further Mathematics classes are usually full and we offer the Core Mathematics AS option, which is becoming increasingly popular as a 4th option choice. Our KS5 results are strong, with students regularly achieving double A*’s.
