Welfare Assistant job summary

As a Welfare Assistant, your primary responsibility is to assess and administer first aid and care to pupils who are in need, in accordance with school policies and to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the medical room during the school day.You will also support the admin team as necessary to enable the school to operate effectively and efficiently.

This is a highly rewarding but demanding role, with no two days being the same, so a calm manner and good sense of humour is important.

The successful applicant will be reliable, energetic and enthusiastic and enjoy working in a busy school.

You will be organised, able to plan ahead, be adept at managing demanding deadlines under pressure and have strong word processing and attention to detail skills.

Ideally the successful candidate will:

  •          Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and school-based systems such as SIMs, Tucasi
  •          Be a warm, positive and confident person
  •          Be flexible and be able to meets challenges with enthusiasm and confidence
  •          Have the ability to communicate with children and members of staff clearly and accurately
  •          Have the ability to work as part of a team
  •          Have common sense and initiative
  •          Play a full part in the life of the school community, supporting the ethos of the school, and encouraging staff, parents and pupils to do likewise.
  •          Have experience of working in an educational setting

The post is for 35 hours per week, term-time plus 5 days for INSET.

A working day would be as below:

Monday to Friday:           8.30am – 4.00pm (30-minute unpaid break)

Additional hours may be required on occasion.
