About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Wellbeing & Emotional Coach to join our school community, supporting students’ emotional, social, and mental wellbeing as part of our whole‑school safeguarding and inclusion approach.
In line with the Education White Paper 2026, this role places a strong emphasis on early intervention, resilience‑building, and integrated support. The successful candidate will work directly with students who may be experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, disengagement from learning, or wider vulnerability, helping them to build coping strategies and access appropriate support at the right time.
You will be a key member of the HELP Team, working closely with the Safeguarding Team, pastoral leaders, SENCO, external agencies, and parents/carers to remove barriers to learning and promote positive attendance, wellbeing, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Student Emotional Support
- Deliver 1:1 wellbeing sessions for students experiencing emotional, social, or mental‑health challenges.
- Facilitate small‑group interventions focused on resilience, emotional literacy, confidence, and healthy relationships.
- Use coaching, mentoring, and therapeutic‑informed approaches to help students develop practical coping strategies.
- Provide short‑term, non‑clinical supportive listening, recognising when escalation or referral to counsellors, CAMHS, or other services is required.
Safeguarding & Early Intervention
- Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to identify students at risk and deliver timely wellbeing interventions.
- Contribute to Early Help plans, safeguarding assessments, and multi‑agency meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain high standards of record‑keeping, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with statutory guidance and school policy.
- Act immediately on safeguarding concerns, following school procedures at all times.
Whole‑School Wellbeing Development
- Support the development and delivery of the school’s whole‑school wellbeing strategy.
- Contribute to staff training and awareness, including trauma‑informed practice and emotional wellbeing.
- Promote a culture of emotional safety, openness, and positive relationships across the school.
- Assist with wellbeing initiatives, assemblies, PSHE contributions, and mental‑health events.
Partnership & Liaison
- Build effective relationships with parents/carers, social care, counselling services, and mental‑health professionals.
- Signpost students and families to appropriate external and community‑based support.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure reasonable classroom adaptations support emotional and safeguarding needs.
- Provide support and guidance to Trainee Counsellors working with students and staff in school.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Maintain accurate, confidential case notes, intervention logs, and impact data.
- Track student progress and contribute to reports for SLT, governors, safeguarding panels, and review meetings.
- Support evaluation of wellbeing provision, ensuring it aligns with school improvement priorities.
