Wellbeing Mentor & School Counsellor job summary

Applications are invited for the role of Well-Being Mentor and School Counsellor from qualified and experienced child counsellors. You will be responsible for providing a high quality, independent and confidential counselling service to students, responding to their personal, social, emotional and educational concerns as well as providing consultancy to parents as needed. In addition, the role also involves organising and facilitating preventative workshops for groups of students to help with personal, social, emotional and educational concerns.

You should have previous experience of counselling young people in a school environment; however applications may be considered from candidates with other relevant experience.

To be successful you must have a non-judgemental outlook, being flexible and responsive to the needs of the young people within our school. The role will involve regular interaction with students and their families so excellent communication skills are also essential.

‘The King James’s Way’ sets out the values and commitments which lie at the centre of everything we do. Though we are proud of our academic success, we are equally proud of our inclusive approach and first-class, wraparound pastoral care.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. All staff will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

For more information about the school please visit our website – www.kingjames.school. Full details of the vacancy can be found in the ‘About Us’ section.

If you have any questions about the role please contact Tracey Brook, PA to the Principal, via email staff.tbrook@kingjames.school.

Completed applications should be submitted to Tracey by 12:00 on Wednesday 18th May 2022. Interviews are expected to take place week beginning 23rd May 2022.

King James’s School is a successful and oversubscribed 11-16 comprehensive school (NOR 906), serving a suburban area and a scatter of villages to the east and south of Huddersfield. It is situated approximately 2 miles from the centre of Huddersfield in a semi-rural position overlooking the Farnley Valley.

Our origins go back to the thirteenth century and the school, which has occupied its present site since 1547, became an Academy in 2012.

King James’s is a truly comprehensive school. The annual intake of 180 students, for which we are regularly over-subscribed, has a very broad socio-economic and ethnic mix, closely resembling the wider British society. Our intake comes predominantly from the priority admission area of Lepton, Kirkheaton and Grange Moor, but we also take from outside the area, particularly from Dalton and Almondbury.

‘A lovely, friendly school, full of history and character, offering an excellent learning environment in a wonderful setting’ - Ofsted 2018
