What skills and experience we're looking for
Role Purpose:
The primary role of the Workshop Technician is to provide efficient and effective practical support to the Design and Technology department, specifically in the Graphics and Resistant Materials workshop.
Duties:
The postholder will undertake a range of tasks within the Design and Technology Department and will need to work in an organised manner and be able to manage their time effectively, whilst maintaining a flexible and positive attitude.
Responsibilities and tasks:
- Managing the materials store
- Organising and preparing materials for lessons
- Maintenance and on-going care of equipment i.e. sharpening of tools
- Working alongside small group of students helping them with ideas and design issues
- Undertaking any other duties as may reasonably be expected
Personal qualities:
- A background in safe machinery use with basic maintenance (such as band saw, pillar drill, belt sander, milling machine and scroll saw)
- A great mind for problem solving
- A working knowledge of using and maintaining hand-held equipment such as planes, chisels and saws
- Background knowledge of engineering, joinery, electronics or a Product Design environment
- Willingness to share expertise with staff and students – sometimes through demonstrations
- Some computer aided design and or/computer aided manufacturing skills would be an advantage, but not essential, as we use a laser cutter, vinyl plotter cutter and micro router.
- A sense of humour!
