Shakespeare Primary School has been created as a result of the amalgamation of Chaucer Primary and West Park Primary Schools in September 2009. The decision to amalgamate the two schools was taken in July 2007, by both sets of governors, following discussions with the Local Authority, about their vision for renewing the school accommodation and rationalising the surplus school places within the community of Honicknowle; and following consultation with parents, staff and the wider community. In April 2018, Shakespeare Primary School joined the Learning Academies Trust and now works in partnership with eight other like-minded schools.

Shakespeare Primary School is a successful school, most recently graded as ‘Good’ by OFSTED. We set ourselves high standards for pupil attainment; foster an inclusive ethos and have achieved full extended school provision in partnership with local providers. Since our inception, we have attained recognition for our work in gaining the International Schools Award; the Healthy Schools Award, the Healthy Schools Plus Award, the 360 Online Safety Award and most recently the Silver Artsmark Award.

At Shakespeare Primary School we have a maintained nursery provision, which is run along with our Reception classes as an integrated Foundation Stage Unit. This provides good transition for our children. Children also come into school from other pre-school settings and links with these other providers are used effectively to support transition into our school family. Our school is an essential and active member of the local community. We welcome parents into school and our Parent Support Adviser currently offers personalised support for parents, well-attended coffee mornings and very successful parent-learning opportunities during each term.

As one new school, we have built upon our shared effective provision and community links, to create a brand new learning environment for our pupils and the wider community. The key aim of Shakespeare Primary School is to enable our pupils to become:

 Successful learners, who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve;

 Confident individuals, who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives;

 Responsible citizens, who make positive contributions to society.

Shakespeare Primary School has an effective Governing Body, who are working together to ensure the very highest standard of educational provision is secured for the pupils within our community. It is always a busy time for governors, but they are supportive, challenging and committed to the future of our pupils and are taking great pleasure in seeing the growth of our school family.

Our school is housed in a brand new building, opened in September 2009. The school is designed to cater for 420 pupils, plus a 36 place nursery. It comprises of twelve classrooms, each to accommodate 30 pupils, in single-aged classes and a Foundation Unit, with indoor and outdoor learning spaces, which is designed to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for 96 pupils from 3 to 5 years. The school operates a single-point of entry in September of each year. The school also has a multi-function hall space, which is used for Breakfast Club, assemblies, PE and dining; a drama studio and a music room. Our school meals are excellent and served from a school ‘production’ kitchen, where food is prepared freshly each day.

The school has covered outdoor classrooms outside each class-base, large playground spaces, ‘quiet’ areas, a playing field and landscaped outdoor teaching spaces, which include allotments, an amphitheatre and wildlife areas.

Other facilities inside the school include a well resourced library, which includes ICT provision, two conference rooms for work with small groups of children or visiting outside agencies, a large staffroom, a PPA room, a Parent Support Adviser’s office, and an open-plan office for the school administrators, a reprographics area, a reception area and Head teacher’s office.
