Responsible to: Headteacher
Job Purpose
- To provide effective leadership and management for a year group, to support pupil's progress and school development
- To contribute to the promotion and achievement of the school vision and purpose
Principal Accountabilities
School Development
- To promote and model the school's ethos, aims and high expectations
- To actively contribute to the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the Strategic School Plan
- In conjunction with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors contribute to the school's processes of self-evaluation, including the preparation and review of the SEF (Self Evaluation Form).
- Maintain broad and balanced knowledge of teaching and learning and disseminate this to other staff
- In conjunction with the Headteacher and Deputy Heads lead professional development through; example, support and providing training
- To lead a curriculum subject and support other colleagues as required
- Take action to build and maintain good teamwork with high expectations of outcomes
- Strengthen and develop effective links with parents, the Church and the wider community
Teaching
- To provide a role model of exemplary practice
- To monitor and evaluate the consistency of planning and assessment in the year group, providing constructive and developmental feedback on a regular basis
- In conjunction with the Headteacher, Deputy Heads and Assistant Head monitor and evaluate standards of teaching and learning, providing feedback to individuals and teams
- To take a lead role in behaviour management
- Effectively fulfil the role of performance management team leader
- In conjunction with the Headteacher, Deputy Heads and Assistant Head, co-ordinate the development of teachers, support staff and other adults
- Ensure the effective and efficient provision, management and organisation of learning resources, including support staff
- Development effective transition for children
Pupil Progress
- Monitor and evaluate assessment data across the year to identify trends and patterns in order to take appropriate action
- Ensure that teachers in the year group set and monitor realistic yet challenging targets for all pupils
- Ensure that quantifiable and challenging pupil progress objectives within teacher's appraisal objectives contribute to school improvement
- Overall responsibility for the management of and achievement in the statutory assessments e.g . Phonics Screening Check, Multiplication Table Check (dependent on year group leading)
- Contribute to the achievement of whole school targets for attainment
- Support the wellbeing of all pupils in the school
Management and Professional Characteristics
- To work in co-operation and consultation with the Headteacher, Deputy Heads and Assistant Head as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
- To act as an ambassador for the school
- To attend and actively contribute to leadership and management meetings
- To effectively manage and professionally develop year group staff
- To ensure the effectiveness for the school with other senior colleagues in the absences of both Headteacher and Deputy Heads
- Provide a professional role model for teachers and other aspiring leaders and manager
- Communicate effectively and with professional integrity with colleagues, parents or outside agencies
- To work effectively with governors
- To take responsibility for one's own professional and personal development
- To take an active interest in the wider aspects of school life
These duties may be varied to meet the changing demands of the school at the reasonable direction of the Headteacher. This job description does not form part of the contract of employment. It describes the way the post holder is expected to perform and complete the particular duties as set as above.
