1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant job summary

The Batt School, St Mary’s Infants, Witney and The Oxford Diocesan Schools’ Trust (ODST) are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and preventing extremism; all staff must ensure that the highest priority is given to following the guidance and regulations to safeguard children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and obtain any other statutorily required clearance. Employment will also be conditional on the receipt of at least two acceptable references (1 from current/latest employer) and evidence of the formal qualifications required for the role. Online searches will be undertaken at shortlisting stage.

The Batt St Mary's partnership is seeking a dedicated and caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and committed team. This role involves working closely with an individual pupil, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo, to support access to learning, promote inclusion, and help the pupil reach their full potential. While this role is initially based at The Batt site, contracts are issued across both school sites. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across sites to support the needs of any pupils.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored support for a pupil with additional needs, both in and out of the classroom

  • Support learning, behaviour, and emotional development in line with individual education or behaviour plans

  • Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment

  • Encourage independence, self-esteem, and positive relationships

  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff

  • Assist with classroom organisation, resources, and learning activities

  • Support pupils during unstructured times, such as lunchtimes and school visits, when required

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, caring, and committed to supporting children with additional needs

  • Can build positive, professional relationships with pupils, staff, and parents

  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills

  • Works well as part of a team and can follow guidance while using initiative

  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality, and confidentiality

  • Is willing to undertake training and professional development

Previous experience working with children or in a school setting is desirable but not essential - we value the right attitude and a genuine passion for supporting pupils.

What We Offer
  • A welcoming and supportive school community

  • Opportunities for training and professional development

  • The chance to make a real difference to a child’s education and wellbeing

  • A role within a school that values inclusion, respect, and teamwork

The schools are part of the Oxford Diocesan Schools' Trust, a large multi-academy trust consisting of 43 schools across Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

We reserve the right to interview early should outstanding early applications be received.
