1:1 Special Needs Learning Support Assistant job summary

This rewarding role involves working closely on a 1:1 basis with a child with special educational needs, providing tailored support to help them fully access the curriculum and thrive within the classroom. You will play a key part in adapting learning activities, breaking down tasks, and creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where the child feels confident, engaged, and ready to learn.

With the support of the class teacher, you will be responsible for observing, monitoring, and recording the child’s progress, making regular assessments to support their development and inform next steps. The role also includes delivering targeted interventions, including those recommended by external professionals, and consistently following individual support plans to ensure the child’s needs are met effectively.

A vital part of this position is building strong relationships with parents and carers, as well as working collaboratively with external professionals such as therapists and specialists. Through clear communication and teamwork, you will help ensure a consistent and supportive approach both in school and beyond.

Above all, you will help create a safe, happy, and settled environment where the child feels secure and valued, enabling them to participate fully in school life and reach their full potential.

We are looking for a caring, patient, and empathetic individual who is passionate about supporting young children to reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will be calm, flexible, and able to build strong, trusting relationships, responding sensitively to the needs of a child with special educational needs.

You should be a confident communicator, able to work closely with staff, parents, and external professionals, and committed to following support plans and guidance. A proactive and positive attitude, along with a genuine desire to make a difference every day, is essential. It would be useful if the applicant has previous experience of working with or supporting children with Special Educational Needs.

This is a full time, term-time position, Monday to Friday, 8.40am - 3.15pm, with a 30 minute lunch break. September 2026 start, or sooner if possible.
