1-1 Teaching Assistant 27.5 hours per week job summary
At Aspire school, we believe that learning needs to be individual for all and aspirational for everyone.
We are looking for a 1:1 teaching assistant to join our team to support a cohort of pupils with specific needs around their social and emotional understanding. The approach used with these pupils allows for a bespoke therapeutic curriculum, where no two days will ever feel the same.
These pupils receive targeted input, from a range of professionals to support with their Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. You will join this team of professionals in facilitating that input and delivering a positive social and academic experience for all those in your care.
Initially, the children may be hesitant to connect with you, but it is your responsibility to build and foster meaningful and healthy relationships to support their development and well-being. You will be responsible for modelling resilience in all aspects of your role, and in return will be rewarded through watching these pupils thrive as you create further opportunities for them.
The children you will be working with are in the Aspire 2/3 pathways, with a Nurture provision. This means that alongside a bespoke curriculum, dynamic approaches to learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation will all need to be applied. This will be encouraged through Team Teach training, in-house CPD, external CPD, in-house therapeutic teams, and a vast array of experienced colleagues.
This is a temporary (until 31st August 2025 with a view to extend) term time only contract (38 weeks per year plus 5 training days), 27.5 hours per week, 9.15 until 14.45 Monday to Friday.
Role and responsibilities:
- Work within and champion a trauma informed ethos, consistently providing pupils with effective social and emotional support. Be compassionate, resilient, caring and understanding when supporting children in and out of the classroom.
- Be proactive and solution focussed, being a positive role model upholding aspirational expectations of both academic and behavioural progress. Support children to learn to manage their emotions and make positive choices.
- To support the teacher in recording and reporting, maintaining accurate records. This will include accurate reporting of safeguarding and behaviour incidents, as well as in-class assessments, reading logs, and others.
- Use a range of strategies as recommended by the teacher or other professionals when working with students in small groups or a 1:1 basis.
To apply you will need to have the following:
- Experience in supporting children with SEN, and in particular, ASD;
- Experience of working with children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours;
- You are a calm, resilient and positive person.
You will also be a desirable candidate if:
- You are Team-Teach trained or have previous training in positive behaviour support strategies;
- You thrive working in a friendly team with like-minded people;
- You have a positive sense of humour and attitude;
- You are a clear communicator with adults and children;
- You are a positive role model to all.
Please only apply if you meet the specified requirements and are prepared to engage actively and diligently with the responsibilities of this role.
In return, we can offer you:
- A friendly and supportive team;
- Opportunities for progression and development through training, coaching and mentoring;
- A healthy work-life balance;
- An inclusive environment where you feel valued;
- A supportive leadership team.
- Excellent pension scheme
- Counselling Service
- Health Cashplan
- Free parking
- Discounted breakfast and after school club for your child (if your child attends one of our trust schools)
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an interview and observation at Aspire School.
