1-1 Teaching Assistant job summary

We are looking to appoint a 1:1 Teaching Assistant who is enthusiastic and patient. The role will be working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant within Year 2.

This is a part-time temporary appointment for 1 year, 28.75 hours a week, (8:45 - 3:15), term time only (38 weeks and 2 days per year).

The role involves supporting a child who has an EHCP and uses Makaton as part of their communication techniques. Experience of working with young children with a variety of special educational needs and knowledge of Makaton would be advantageous.

Whilst you will be expected to work under the direction of the class teacher you will also have the ability to use your own initiative to organise tasks and activities; creating simple resources to support the pupil’s work as appropriate. You will work closely with the class teacher and Early Years team as well as the School’s SEN support

We are looking for a person who is calm, kind, patient and who:

  • is experienced in communicating with young pupils and those with learning difficulties
  • knowledge of Makaton would be advantageous
  • is cheerful, positive and enthusiastic about working with children
  • a good standard of education together with good numeracy and literacy skills. With English and Maths GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • excellent interpersonal skills and a be good team player
  • good communication skills
  • flexibility
