2 i/c English & Media job summary
Howard of Effingham School is seeking an inspiring and innovative 2 i/c English and Media to join our vibrant faculty. We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to contribute to the continued success of the department.
The post would require the successful applicant to take responsibility for specific year groups in English, sharing in the day-to-day running and strategic leadership of the faculty. The post would suit an experienced teacher. The ability to teach A Level English Literature and/or A Level English Language as well as Media Studies at GCSE and/or A Level is highly desirable.
The English Faculty is housed in a suite of rooms conveniently located close to the Learning Resource Centre.
The English Faculty is a lively and busy faculty of six full-time and eight part-time teachers. In addition to this we regularly host PGCE and i2i trainee student teachers. We have two Co-Heads of Faculty who are line managed by a member of the Senior Team and who have responsibility for KS4 and 5; they are supported in the leadership of the faculty by two 2ic English Key Stage 3 Leaders and the Head of Media.
In KS3, students are taught in mixed ability groups. We strongly encourage the sharing of resources within the faculty and we will welcome the contributions of the appointed person. Students are set at KS4 into two ability bands, per half of the year.
Our KS3 scheme has been created in house, taking an interleaved approach, encouraging students to be GCSE Skills ready.
At KS4 we are moving to the AQA specification with all students taking both English Language and English Literature.
At KS5, we offer English Language, using the Eduqas specification and Edexcel English Literature.
Students may also opt to take Media Studies at GCSE and A Level using the Eduqas Specification.
We run a range of enrichment activities for students of all ages, including theatre trips.
Duties will include
- Organising and facilitating the preparation of resources for relevant Schemes of Work within the faculty.
- Organising end of year examinations and termly assessments for relevant classes.
- Liaising with parents who have queries on faculty issues.
- Collection of data, pupil tracking and intervention at the relevant level.
- Supporting members of the faculty with the school behaviour policies in English lessons.
Course information
The KS3 schemes have been created in house to provide a cohesive learning jpurney from years 7 through to 13.
At KS we are currently moving to the AQA specification with all students taking English Language and English Literature.
In the sixth form we follow the WJEC English Language specification and Edexcel English Literature.
In Media Studies we follow the Eduqas specifications at both A Level and GCSE
