What skills and experience we're looking for

Thank you for your interest in working at George Mitchell School. We are looking to appoint a 2nd in charge for English, to work alongside the Curriculum leader for English to build on our improving outcomes and further enthuse our students. You will be joining a supportive team of teaching staff dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for our students.

George Mitchell is a unique All-through school with four form entry into the Secondary provision. The English department has four full time teachers. Students study AQA at Key Stage 4 and our students are ambitious.

We are a happy school with low staff turnover, a positive culture and good relationships between staff and students. Following a recent inspection Ofsted commented that ‘Pupils are polite and friendly; most behave well and have positive attitudes to learning.’

The school is extremely ambitious and continually improving in all aspects. Therefore, I am looking for exceptional people with energy and drive to join us in this work. You will notice our school ethos and PRIDE values, which embodies the standard of the school we aspire to be.

What the school offers its staff

Following a recent Ofsted inspection the school was judged as ‘Good’.

We are an all through school which creates the unique opportunity to work across phases which is great for professional development. We are a small school with 4 form entry at secondary and 2 form entry at primary. The size of each year group means that staff get to know individual students and their families really well and form excellent relationships. The school has a ‘community’ feel built on excellent relationships between all staff. Staff turnover is low and wellbeing good.

Our students benefit from new buildings and improved facilities. We have a vast number of computers, interactive whiteboards in every classroom and banks of laptops that are available for student use.

Our focus is on ensuring that every child gets the very best education possible. Our reputation is dependent on the happiness and achievements of all our pupils, which is reflected in our school intent.

George Mitchell is within walking distance from Leyton underground and Leyton Midland station.

The school also has a staff carpark.

Waltham forest is a diverse East London borough with excellent commuting links, served by the London Overground, Central, Victoria and Greater Anglia lines. School staff employed by the London Borough of Waltham Forest are eligible for a number of benefits, to include:
